Boutique shopping. Outdoor adventure. Music, arts, and culture. Food to delight localvores and foodies alike. Montpelier Alive is on a mission to share the news that all this and more can be found in downtown Montpelier, Vermont. The organization works on economic development and downtown beautification, organizes community events, and promotes the city to visitors from around the region.
Montpelier Alive was one of my first clients; I began my relationship with them in 2011 by creating posters, ads, and a program guide for the former First Night festival on New Year’s Eve. I’ve also created materials for the July 3 Independence Day event, which draws thousands of people to the city.
Art Walk is one of Montpelier Alive’s longstanding events, where downtown businesses hang up works by local artists and throw a city-wide party on a Friday night to celebrate visual arts in the community. I’ve been designing the pocket-size guidebook for the quarterly event since 2012, as well as branded maps and signage. Most recently, I collaborated with Montpelier Alive staff to craft a tourism booklet, featuring downtown businesses, fun things to do, and a fold-out map. This comprehensive, polished, 48-page guide is now provided for free at hotels, businesses, and events around town. Hurrah for our lively little capital city!
